Mezentsev summed up Supreme State Council results at meeting with Belarusian journalists accredited in Russia

The State Secretary of the Union State has met with Belarusian journalists accredited in Russia and summed up the results of the Supreme State Council meeting, held in St. Petersburg – as reported on the website of the Belarusian State TV and Radio Company

According to Dmitry Mezentsev, there are more than ten important areas on the Union State current agenda. These include industry, trade, agriculture, interaction between central banks, the formation of a single energy market, and nuclear energy projects. However, completely new topics have also appeared: the Union State sci-tech strategy was approved. Another important area is the construction of new railway and port infrastructure. Due to sanctions pressure and the reorientation of cargo to other markets, this issue is especially relevant nowadays.

“In 2023, the volume of transportation of cargoes and goods from Belarus to Russia exceeded 14 million tonnes. Of this, 12.9 million tonnes were cargoes that were delivered to the north-west of Russia, and of course, a lot of work is currently underway to improve the infrastructure of Russian ports to receive Belarusian cargo on the Baltic Sea and further to the north-west. Meanwhile, investing in improving railways and increasing capacity requires resources that were not initially planned. Nevertheless, the task has been set and the presidents actively took part in this discussion, giving specific instructions to ministries, departments and governments,” said Dmitry Mezentsev.

Moreover, this time, much attention was paid to Union State projects in education, culture and preserving the Great Patriotic War memory. This year, Belarus celebrates a significant date: 80 years since its liberation from the Nazi invaders. Dozens of Union State projects are planned, relating to co-operation of museums, memory events, as well as the creation of a large collection about the partisan movement of Belarus and the Great Patriotic War heroes.
