Mezentsev outlined key areas of co-operation within Union State
The Belarusian and Russian leaders have set a task to ensure import substitution to form a single foundation for technological independence – as noted by the State Secretary of the Union State, Dmitry Mezentsev, in his talk with the ONT TV channel
According to Mr. Mezentsev, the countries are already demonstrating progress in their work along this avenue, and there is a range of main areas of Belarus-Russia co-operation.
“As for space, this sphere produces a huge return for the real sector of the economy, the national economy, farmers, and our defence. A new joint spacecraft – which is currently being developed by the two states – will have unique characteristics of remote sensing of the Earth. Not long ago, Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the Cosmonaut Training Centre and met with the flight candidates – which confirms that Belarus’ industrial and scientific potential enables the country to consider itself a member of the club of space powers,” Mr. Mezentsev said.
Speaking of the healthcare sector, the State Secretary of the Union State informed that, in 2-3 years, a therapeutic vaccine against tuberculosis will be presented to the medical professional community. “Research is also underway on the so-called transdermal method of delivery of medicines. This is something new that medicine is in demand today for the health of millions of people," he added.
Mr. Mezentsev also stressed that attention is paid to the automotive industry and security of the Union State. Unsurprisingly, three out of the four programmes scheduled for implementation this year are devoted to border security and support for improving the infrastructure of the joint group of the Union State.
The official also focused on the issue of creating a media holding of the Union State, “At the upcoming meeting of the Supreme State Council, a concept of the Union State’s information security will be adopted, and it will define the ways to protect citizens, society and the state from the information attack and negative pressure that we are experiencing. Regardless of the form of news presentation in our countries, we should have a foundation of information work for the sake of millions of Belarusians and Russians. The President of Belarus stressed that it should be an independent structure, with involvement of professional Russian and Belarusian journalists, specialists, and directors."
