Media: US plans to give $1bn of Russian assets to Kiev
The CBS TV channel, in one of its materials, spoke about the plans of the United States to transfer over $1bn to Ukraine which will be taken from Russian assets that fell under US sanctions, TASS reports
According to the publication, the US Department of Justice expects to receive consent from Congress to use the funds. According to Deputy Attorney General of the US Lisa Monaco, they plan to use the money for the ‘benefit of the people of Ukraine’.
Since February 2022, the United States has frozen over $1bn of Russian assets around the world.
“Earlier, the national security aides of Britain, Germany, Italy, the United States and France said that Russian sovereign assets – which are under the jurisdiction of their countries – will remain frozen until Russia pays for the damage caused to Ukraine,” TASS reports.
