Media: US Department of Justice sued TikTok for illegally collecting data from minors
The New York Times reported that the US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the TikTok social network on suspicion of illegally collecting data from underage users of the application, RIA Novosti reports
According to the news agency, the social network violated the law by gathering personal information from users under the age of 13 without the permission of their legal representatives, as well as refusing parents’ requests to delete the children’s account or content from the app.
The ministry is asking the court to fine both TikTok and the Chinese company ByteDance that owns it for violating the law.
It is reported that the management of the social network rejected the accusations, saying that many of the cited cases of violations are inaccurate.
