According to The Guardian newspaper, it refers to a payment in the amount of £100 to £300 ($130-$390) for citizens born before 1958, if they meet certain financial criteria. According to the analytical company Policy in Practice, due to stricter checks on the allocation of funds, about 130 thousand pensioners in England and Wales will not receive this money to heat their homes.

“The real pain will be felt by those who only slightly do not meet the parameters for obtaining a social loan for pensioners. They are on the brink and some of them will slide into distress,” said Jan Shortt, the General Secretary of the National Convention of Pensioners (NPC), an organisation that protects the elderly in the UK. He added that pensioners will be forced to turn off the heating to make ends meet and live in cold, damp houses with mould.
