Media: Slovak military to help police in fight against illegal migrants
The Slovak Government will allocate up to 500 military personnel who will help the police fight illegal immigrants trying to enter the country from Hungary, TASS reports with reference to the aktuality.sk Internet portal
Marian Mayer, the State Secretary at the Defence Ministry of the Slovak Republic, said, “The time has come for such a decision. Recently, there has been a clear increase in illegal migration, and we are talking about figures that, since 2021, greatly exceed the figures of illegal migration during the so-called migration crisis in 2015.”
The military will assist the police in protecting strategic facilities. In addition, they will control the transport corridors going across the border. It is reported that the Slovak Armed Forces numbered 19.5 thousand soldiers and officers in 2022.
