In 2018, Seoul and Pyongyang each destroyed 10 border guard posts, but retained one each as a site of historical or other value. According to the news agency, South Korea is now considering the possibility of reopening the remaining guard post.

It is noted that the South Korean side is already preparing equipment and weapons to create temporary observation posts.

On November 21st, the DPRK successfully launched the first reconnaissance satellite, Malligyong-1, aboard the Chollima-1 launch vehicle. In response, on November 22nd, South Korea announced a partial suspension of the inter-Korean tension-reduction agreement. This measure concerned the provisions on no-fly zones. On November 23rd, the DPRK Defence Ministry announced that it would no longer comply with the entire agreement and would resume the use of measures halted under the 2018 deal.
