Media reported growing number of Ukrainians becoming victims of human trafficking in Netherlands
The NRC newspaper reported that National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings Conny Rijken said she was concerned about the growing number of Ukrainians becoming victims of human trafficking in the Netherlands, RIA Novosti reports
It is noted that, in 2022, 814 cases of human trafficking were identified in the Netherlands; of these, in 51 cases the victims of trafficking were Ukrainians.
Conny Rijken said, “We see that fraudulent employment agencies are abusing Ukrainians. Victims of human trafficking often do not file complaints, either because they do not realise they are being exploited or because they have nowhere to go.”
It was previously reported that the number of refugees from Ukraine is growing in the Netherlands. The need for admission in the country will increase from 90,000 to 97,000 by 2024.
