Media: Poland takes lead in defence spending growth in NATO

The Rzeczpospolita newspaper reported that Poland is now the leader in defence spending growth among NATO members, TASS reports

According to the newspaper, in 2023, Poland allocated 3.92 percent of its GDP to military spending. At the same time, it has also taken the lead in the amount of funds earmarked for the purchase of new weapons, which accounted for 54 percent of all military spending.

It is noted that Poland’s military budget in 2024 will total 118.14bn Zlotys (about $29.5bn) – equal to 3.1 percent of GDP. A total of 159bn Zlotys (about $39.7bn) will be spent on military needs, i.e., 4.2 percent of GDP.

The newspaper reports that in 2014 only the US, the UK and Greece spent more than 2 percent of their GDP on defence, while in 2023 there were already 11 such states in NATO.
