Media: Poland, Baltic States urge EU to build defence line on border with Belarus and Russia
Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have called on the European Union to build a defence line alone the bloc’s border with Belarus and Russia, BelTA reports with reference to the Reuters news agency
In a letter to the EU President, which will be discussed during the summit in Brussels, the leaders of the four states explained that this initiative is aimed at protecting the countries of the association and will require the financial support of all EU members.
According to diplomats, the cost of the 700km-long defence line will total 2.5bn Euros. The letter notes that the construction should be carried out in co-ordination with NATO and its military requirements.
