Media: Microsoft asks hundreds of China-based employees relocate to US
According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is asking hundreds of employees of its Chinese divisions to think about relocating to the United States amid increasing technological rivalry between the two countries, TASS reports
It is reported that about 700 to 800 Microsoft employees – engaged in machine learning and cloud solutions development – have been recently offered to transfer to the company’s offices in the US, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
At the same time, according to a Microsoft representative, the company will continue to work in China.
According to the edition, the reason for this decision was the new rules that were considered by the administration of US President Joe Biden and which require Microsoft to obtain licenses before providing customers from China with access to AI chips. It is reported that the measure is aimed at limiting China’s ability to develop the latest AI technologies.
