Media: India agreed to use Starlink satellite communication system in country
The Ministry of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology of India approved the proposal of Elon Musk, an American billionaire, to launch the services of the Starlink global satellite communication system in the country, TASS reports
The Times of India newspaper, citing sources, reports that the agency officially approved Elon Musk's proposal to use the services of the Starlink mobile satellite communication system for high-speed broadband Internet access. Now, the Minister of Communications, Ashwini Vaishnaw, is awaiting the results of the Home Ministry’s consideration of some security issues related to this.
It is also noted that the Ministry of Communications approved the commercial part of the project, investments in its implementation, the equity of the planned company for the use of Starlink services, as well as its compliance with licence conditions.
The Indian authorities also did not object to the proposals on the company's ownership in a country that should not be managed by states that have a land border with India.
It is clarified that Elon Musk's proposal to launch the Starlink satellite system in India has been considered by local authorities for more than three years.
