Media: French mayor arrested after 70kg+ drugs found at her home
The mayor of the commune of Avallon (Yonne department), located in eastern France, Jamilah Habsaoui, was taken into custody after 70kg of cannabis and 1kg of cocaine were found at her home, TASS reports
The French BFM TV channel shared information about the arrest.
According to the BFM TV channel, in addition to the commune leader, ‘six other people were detained, including two of Habsaoui’s brothers’. It is reported that during a series of searches, besides cannabis, about 1kg of cocaine and 20 gold bars were found.
The BFM TV channel added that the searches and detentions were organised as part of the global operation against drug crime called Place nette XXL [XXL Clean Space].
Earlier, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that during the raids, held over the past six months, about 7,200 suspected drug traffickers were detained and 3.6 tonnes of illicit drugs were seized.
