Media: dozens of weapons and equipment stolen or lost in British army
At least 30 weapons and equipment have been stolen or lost from British military bases since 2018, gazeta.ru reports wit reference to The Telegraph
According to the publication, among the lost or stolen arms are several machine guns, including two general-purpose (GPMG) ones. The British army also lost SA-80 rifles, rocket launchers and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
The GPMG can fire up to 750 rounds per minute and has a range of up to 1,800 metres. As noted by the source, one of them was lost by the Royal Navy at sea.
An AK-47 assault rifle manufactured in the USSR, several Glock pistols, as well as First and Second World Wars small arms, were also lost. It is reported that, from 2018 to 2023, at least 1,400 laptops belonging to the British Defence Ministry were also lost. In August last year, 51 laptops disappeared, 50 were lost in the first three months of 2023.
According to the source, the British Parliament called for an investigation into whether the laptops and hard drives that have gone missing contained sensitive information. A spokesperson for the British Defence Ministry told The Telegraph that the agency is making efforts ‘to prevent losses and thefts’.
