NYT: Biden rating slips in presidential race
US President Joe Biden’s support level is lower than that of his predecessor Donald Trump and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (both Republicans), according to a new poll by The New York Times and Siena College, TASS reports
Voters were asked who they would vote for if the presidential elections were held today and if the candidates were Joe Biden for the Democratic Party and Donald Trump for the Republican Party. 48 percent of respondents expressed their readiness to support Trump, while 43 percent would vote for Biden.
The poll found that 45 percent would prefer to vote for Haley, while only 35 percent of those surveyed voted for Biden, thus making Haley’s support 10 percentage points higher than Biden’s.
The poll also revealed that only 24 percent of Americans believe the country is moving in the right direction compared to 65 percent who disapprove of the current administration’s actions. Another 11 percent of respondents were either undecided or refused to answer.
The study was conducted from February 25th-28th among 980 adults who plan to vote in this year’s presidential elections, with a margin of error as 3.5 percentage points.
The US presidential elections will take place in November. On April 25th, 2023, Biden announced his intention to be re-elected to the country’s highest office. Trump entered the race in November 2022 and is currently considered the front-runner among Republicans for the presidency.
