Media: almost 9m Spaniards face water restrictions due to drought
More than 8.7 million people in Spain daily face certain restrictions imposed by the authorities on the use of water due to the drought, TASS reports
El Pais reported that water-related restrictions are in force in 495 municipalities of one of Spain’s regions. They include bans on washing cars and watering gardens, as well as reduction of industrial consumption or limitation of household water consumption.
It is also informed that the Spanish authorities earlier decided to declare an emergency in several localities due to the drought, doing that for the first time.
In recent months, Spain (with more than 47m of population) has faced a lack of sufficient rainfall. The country’s reservoirs are filled by about 42 percent on average.
