MAZ buses return to top-5 sales leaders in Russia

The Minsk Automobile Works (MAZ) is increasing its sales of buses in the Russian market. In May 2023, the Belarusian company sold 159 buses, improving the result by 26 percent compared to May 2022 – as reported on the website of the Russian Autostat agency.

Sales of MAZ passenger buses in Russia have been growing since the beginning of this year. In January 2023, the Belarusian enterprise doubled its sales, shipping 104 units. With such a result, MAZ took the fourth place in the ranking of manufacturers. In February and March 2023, MAZ remained in the top-5 of the brands selling 110 and 99 buses. The failure happened in April, when MAZ lost its place in the top-5 to the Volgabus brand, which sold 73 units.

The undisputed leader of the Russian market in May was the Pavlovsk Automobile Plant, which sold 482 buses – 42 percent up compared to May 2022. Competitors LIAZ and NEFAZ sold 231 and 174 buses respectively while Chinese Yutong sold 151 units. Such results enable MAZ to be ranked fourth in the rating of manufacturers. In total, according to the results of May, sales of new buses in Russia amounted to 1,455 units (78 percent more than in May 2022).

Reference. The Minsk Automobile Works plans to construct a new building aiming to increase the production capacity of buses up to 3,000 units per year. According to the business plan, the capacity of the new MAZ building will allow organising the assembly of up to eight buses and electric buses per day, or up to 2,000 units per year. Over 1,400 people will be able to work at the new production facility.
