Massive asteroid will fly past the Earth on January 18th
An enormous asteroid – known as Asteroid 7482 (1994 PC1) and being about 1.1km in diameter – will pass at its closest on January 18th. This follows from data published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) – as reported by TASS
The closest distance an asteroid will approach the Earth will be about 2 million kilometres, it will fly at a speed of more than 70 thousand km/h. Despite the fact that at its closest approach, the asteroid will be at a distance several times greater than the distance from the Earth to the Moon and there is no real threat of a collision, NASA experts regard such space objects as ‘potentially dangerous’.
Asteroid 7482 (1994 PC1) was discovered by Scottish-Australian astronomer Robert McNaught in 1994.
