Markov: Africa has always been source of enrichment for the West
On September 6th, negotiations began between the Niger authorities and the French army on the withdrawal of some French units from the African country. The French Defence Ministry reported that the military, which came to power in Niger as a result of the coup, have been demanding the withdrawal of French soldiers from the country for more than a month. Chairman of the Board of the Second National TV Channel Marat Markov explained the essence of what was happening in his talk with Alfa Radio.
According to Marat Markov, Africa – thanks to the resources it boasts – has always been a source of enrichment for Western countries, “The reserves of uranium, which was used for the needs of French nuclear power plants, are huge there. And the prices for it used to be a penny. Now they are rising, and this cannot but cause discontent among the French. Naturally, France is trying to change this situation. Here at the forefront is the economy, the interests of definite corporations. Now these corporations are beginning to understand that they are not just losing profits, they can ‘be completely broke’. And there are no alternative sources for purchasing the same uranium or other rare earth metals. In general, Africa is such a periodic table, and the fact is that it has always been a source of enrichment [of the West] and a resource from which [everything] was pumped out, without thinking at all about how people live there. Now the inhabitants of the continent have begun to notice a very different attitude towards themselves from the European Union and from Russia, Belarus, China, and they understand where it is good and where they are not appreciated. There are also people in Africa, and they also want to live a normal life. They are tired of being oppressed by the British colonialists, French, German. This must come to an end.”
