Makei comments on Zelenskyy’s desire to place observers on border with Belarus

The Minister was asked what Belarus’ reaction would be if such a mission from Western countries was placed on the border. “I agree here with the assessment made by the Russian side. If relevant representatives of Western countries are sent to the border of Belarus and Ukraine, then this will actually mean the involvement of these third countries in the Ukrainian conflict,” Vladimir Makei said.

“We have always said that we do not want to participate in this conflict and want everything that is happening in Ukraine to stop as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we see that it is the Western countries that are only escalating this conflict,” the Minister stressed.

As far as particular measures are concerned, their development is within the competence of the military and special services.

Answering a clarifying question whether the deployment of such a contingent would pose a threat to the national security of Belarus, the Foreign Minister noted, “It depends on what intentions these observers will have or what weapons they will be armed with. As far as the current development of the situation both on our southern and western borders is concerned, we see that hysteria is being whipped up. Let’s say that this is not some kind of verbal rhetoric. Concrete actions are being taken: military equipment and weapons are being transferred, military personnel are being accumulated. Of course, we should not turn a blind eye to this. Naturally, adequate measures will be developed response, including those of a military character.”
