Lukyanov: young people able to protect historical memory
The current generation should not be ashamed in front of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who proved that our people are victorious, defending honour and independence, traditional values and the ability to exist as a separate state – as stated by Aleksandr Lukyanov, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM), at the opening of the forum of the CIS youth organisations – Vector for the Future – in Minsk
Protecting historical memory is the sacred duty of the current generation. Aleksandr Lukyanov emphasised, “Today, when the seed of enmity is sown from the outside, they try to kindle the fire of war, and only young people can localise it. Not only as part of open dialogues and discussion platforms, but also by taking part in labour actions, by implementing projects aimed at working in the digital space and information environment, by joint projects and flash mobs, including those designed for the CIS youth audience.”
The youth should understand the responsibility that is entrusted to them, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union is sure, “Young people need to clearly understand that they are part of a major historical event when a generation is changing. We have recently discussed on one of the television programmes that for the older generation the word ‘war’ is a tragedy while for the current generation it is, for example, in the game. But now we clearly understand what consequences an illiterate attitude to those events of the past, non-participation in the process of preserving historical memory can lead to.”
