Lukyanov: the frequency of President’s visits to Khatyn underlines his reverent attitude towards history
The frequency of President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visits to Khatyn, the fact that this happens together with young people, underlines his reverent attitude towards history and his position on the need to transfer traditions and historical memory to youngsters – as noted by First Secretary of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union Aleksandr Lukyanov on April 22nd during the nationwide subbotnik at the Khatyn Memorial Complex
“To work together with the head of the country is a special trust,” said Aleksandr Lukyanov. “But over the past year, a good tradition has been formed: almost every weekend we come here to work. Every young Belarusian should visit this place at least once in order to realise why we have become such an independent sovereign country thanks to and despite what. Recently, Khatyn has become a place of pilgrimage for young people. Every day there are a huge number of youngsters from all over the country, e.g., the queue in the museum is formed a month in advance. Of course, in this regard, it is a special responsibility for the Belarusian Republican Youth Union to take patronage over the Khatyn State Memorial Complex.”
Aleksandr Lukyanov noted that Belarusian young people are working today not only in Khatyn, but also in many memorable places of the country, “In light of the fact that half of the money earned will go to the construction of the republican centre for youth patriotic education on the basis of the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress, which we proposed to declare as a youth construction site, in fact, each of us today contributes to this activity. However, the spiritual component is much more important than the material component.”
