Lukashenko: we want to bring level of our co-operation with China’s provinces to level of Russian regions

Belarus expects to bring co-operation with the Chinese regions to a higher level – as stated today by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during his meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong

The Head of State drew attention to the fact that, at the suggestion of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a new topic appeared in the bilateral relations: regional co-operation.

“Once, during our meeting, he drew my attention to China’s regions, jokingly suggesting ‘to look at the Chinese provinces and Belarus’ interaction with the regions, because some China’s provinces are larger than certain states both in terms of population and GDP’. Therefore, we have begun serious interaction with the regions of China. We will also pay attention to this and develop liaisons with the regions. We would like the level of this co-operation to be similar to what we have with the Russian regions. There is already an experience of deepening and expanding this co-operation.”

Today almost all regions of Belarus and the city of Minsk have already become twinned or partnered with three or more Chinese regions, thus ensuring the coverage of almost all provinces of the People’s Republic of China.

Roadmaps of inter-regional co-operation are agreed upon annually.
