Lukashenko: we must revive Polesie within coming five years
Polesie needs to be revived within the next five years – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at today’s solemn ceremony honouring agricultural workers at Dazhynki-2024 festival-fair
The Head of State noted that, during his working trip to Parokhonskoye JSC on October 4th, an agreement was reached to return to the implementation of the programme dealing with the Polesie revival.
“I do not demand anything supernatural from you. It is just necessary to continue the great work that we launched more than a decade ago. Yesterday [October 4th], I was perhaps too harsh in saying that Polesie can provide enough food for the whole of the country, and we can sell everything else beyond Belarus. The demand for food will continue growing, and this tendency is based on a simple formula: the world's population is growing, and these people need to be fed. Accordingly, the demand for food will grow. Our Polesie must be reborn. It is the most beautiful region of Belarus. I do not want to offend others, but true Belarusians were born here – with their own mentality, character, determination, and a sort of shrewdness. They are real hard workers. We should revive Polesie within the next five years, and the importance of this mission is also rooted in the need to set an example for our youth, our children and grandchildren of how it is necessary to work. No matter how much we praise our youth (our young people are good, kind, beautiful, they are better than us), they are different. We need to leave the path for them to follow at least at the beginning – so that to decide for themselves how to develop further.”
