Lukashenko visited Sozh sports and recreation centre in Korma and tasked to determine plans for Gomel Region development during winter
Upon his arrival in the urban settlement of Korma, Gomel Region, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has visited the Sozh sports and recreation complex
At the helipad organised on the premises of the sports and recreation centre, the Head of State asked Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Ivan Krupko what plans the regional authorities have for the development of the region and outlined the task, “In winter, you will tell me what we will do with the Gomel Region.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko inspected the territory of the sports facility which has a roller ski track, an outdoor hockey field, a gym, a stadium with artificial turf, a swimming pool, etc. The sports and recreation complex was commissioned just in time for the Dazhynki festival-fair. The local government plans to reconstruct and build sports facilities in a range of other districts of Pripyat Polesie, primarily in those affected by the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
“This is all good, but there must be production for the social base that you have built. Think about what we will do with the Gomel Region as a whole. All this is beautiful, but what about the indicators? In order to have decent indicators, people are needed. We need to organise these people and get them interested. So far, what I’ve seen looks sad. Everything is almost perfect around Korma: ploughing, farming culture. What of that?” the President asked.
The Head of State once again specified the task, “We need production here. There should be a return from people. Lands must be restored. Land reclamation should be conducted, and the culture of agriculture should be ideal.”
