Lukashenko: views of leadership of Belarus and Vatican practically coincide, especially on security issues
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has met today with Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Belarus Ante Jozic in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission in the republic
Welcoming the diplomat, Aleksandr Lukashenko said, “It's a pleasure to meet you. You are a smart, educated and, most importantly, very active person. At the same time, you are friendly. I am convinced that, despite certain restrictions (there are always some of them in your position, I know this well, since I personally send Belarusian ambassadors to foreign countries), you have been a decent person.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that he remembers his meetings with the Pope with great warmth, “I was lucky. All the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church whom I met were also very serious and decent people. It is easy for me to talk to you as a representative of a religious denomination, one of the main ones in Belarus, because our views – the views of the leadership of Belarus and the Vatican – practically coincide, especially on security issues. Our positions are absolutely in tune – as confirmed by the conflict in Ukraine, regarding which we share almost a similar position.”
