Lukashenko: Europe needs new peace treaty

Europe needs a new peace treaty to live in calmness – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at today’s meeting with Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Belarus Ante Jozic in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission in the republic

Speaking about security on the European continent, the Head of State stressed, “Europe needs a new peace treaty in order to live peacefully and live the way we live (no matter how much we may complain, we live well). A new peace is needed for Europe.” However, Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that the activity of the Roman Catholic Church is not enough for this. “There should be strong leaders in European countries who would proceed from the fact that it is necessary to see the interests of their peoples, and not just obey and act to please someone. Unfortunately, I do not see such persons – hope they will not take offense at me," he said.

The Belarusian leader warmly thanked Ante Jozic for the assistance he provided to the republic after the start of the special military operation when releasing 30 Belarusian citizens, “We appreciate it very much, we will remember and will not forget about it.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko asked Ante Jozic to prepare the Pope's future envoy to Belarus, “He should be better than the previous one, and this is the essence of progress. However, we will be happy if the new envoy of the Pope is like Jozic. We absolutely agree with this. I am pleased to meet with you and discuss the issues that may have accumulated in the relations between Belarus and the Vatican and the Catholic Church in Belarus.”
