Lukashenko urged Belarusians to join tree planting campaign in hurricane-hit territories
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has urged all Belarusians to join the tree planting campaign in the territories affected by the hurricane that swept through our country in July 2024. The Head of State has stated this today, speaking at a solemn ceremony of honouring farmers at the Dazhynki-2024 festival-fair in Korma, Gomel Region.
First of all, the President drew attention to the effectiveness of the state policy of overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, which is especially important for the region, “Today we can talk about a decent result. You can see it. You live here despite gloomy forecasts and long-term prejudices.”
“The Gomel Region is now a highly developed agro-industrial region, boasting great tourist potential. We’ve preserved access to rich and highly demanded resources, so we have the opportunity to extract peat, coal, oil, and potassium. We’re engaged in the systematic development of these territories as part of the Chernobyl programme and are thinking about new horizons,” the Head of State noted.
The President urged to restore them, saying that, “Yesterday I suggested doing it together. We should all go to the forest and plant those areas that were hit by this hurricane. Forests are our life, our oxygen. Let’s hold a campaign and plant new trees in these damaged areas. Let’s do it together, as it has always been in Belarus.”
