The President thanked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for the opportunity to meet in Moscow. He also indicated that the day before, the presidents had been discussing closed topics related to defence and security for quite a long time.

“Taking into account the current moment, the importance of this unique interstate association can hardly be overestimated. In terms of the total results achieved over such a short period, the Union State is rightfully taking the lead among other integration associations. It is not surprising that many of our developments have been widely developed in adjacent integration associations within the CIS,” Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined.

He also added that today, more than ever before, it’s important for the parties to fully implement the provisions of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, signed on April 2nd, 1996, “This fundamental document has become the starting point for further deepening of bilateral relations, opening up new opportunities for improving the quality of people’s life and increasing our countries’ potentials across all areas.”

The Belarusian leader emphasised, “By systematically expanding the legal base of interaction, we have opened broadband highways for activating business, co-operation between scientific circles and creative teams, as well as partnerships between youth associations. Freedom of movement of citizens and capital, equal opportunities for education and employment – all these are indisputable advantages of our integration in the eyes of ordinary Belarusians and Russians.”
