Lukashenko: state ideology to embrace whole nation
At today’s meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko has once again addressed the topic of developing a state ideology in the country, BelTA reports
“I support the proposal of Vadim Gigin [Director General of the National Library and Head of the Znanie (Knowledge) Belarusian Society] that we really need to develop our own state ideology, and we are most likely to discuss its concept at the highest level: the Belarusian People's Congress. Probably, we will focus on some specific plans or maybe fully study this concept of state ideology,” the Head of State said. “Actually, I have always said that there should be no rush in this matter. It should probably be implemented without hesitation if we feel that we already [have] this concept of at least state ideology. In any case, there should be no mistake.”
“This state ideology should embrace the whole nation. It should not involve only the elite, villagers or workers: it must be spread to all people," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The Belarusian leader agreed that 2020, with its difficulties and challenges, would have to be invented if all this had not happened. “I often repeat this. We saw a lot, we saw ourselves in the mirror. Meanwhile, are we ready to say that we have ideas for this ideology? I do not know, and these are you who are primarily to convince me of this. If I am convinced, I am ready to go ahead and organise the process," he said.
The Head of State suggested further work on this issue and stressed once again that the country really needs its own state ideology. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, it might be based on some biblical postulates, laws and Christian values, as well as the current Constitution. “After all, it is the fruit of everything we have experienced. They should be some kind of a pillar – not necessarily the whole basis, but surely a pillar for our ideology. We will meet and discuss these issues, especially with regard to the future of our state," the Belarusian leader concluded.
