Lukashenko shared impressions of COP29: it’s another talking shop, but organisational issues settled brilliantly
In a short talk with journalists, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko shared his opinion about the World Climate Action Summit after his speech at the event
According to the Head of State, only the organisational issues can be assessed as ‘brilliant’ at the summit. Answering the question about his personal impressions of the event, the Belarusian leader said openly, “They are disgusting! I voiced only the theses, since – because of the UN utter bureaucracy – it all seems useless. What is it possible to say in just three minutes? Everyone reports how great they are. It has become even worse.”
The Belarusian leader noted that, in his speech, he outlined three serious military conflicts that significantly affect the environment at present, “The Houthis are being pressurised for no one knows why, there is a war in the Middle East (with great prospects for involving other countries), and a war in Ukraine. These are large ones, but there are a total of 50+ of such conflicts. They are primarily polluting the atmosphere, and I talked about that in Dubai.”
In addition, manufacturers also influence the state of the environment, and the President stressed, “Who produces the most? These are Anglo-Saxons. Where are they? There are none [of them here]. Where is Mr. Macron who was so much promoting himself through the agenda [of the Paris Agreement]? He has not come today. They are actually mistreating all these issues, and today’s meeting is just another talking shop.”
Answering the question whether he believes that the goal of stopping wars, which is often voiced at such events, will be achieved, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, “The reality shows the opposite, and that's why I have little belief in this.”
