Lukashenko: school is a sacred place, and it needs iron order and discipline
Order and discipline should reign at Belarusian schools, both in the organisation of the educational process and in material terms – as stated by the President of Belarus at today’s meeting focusing on the improvement of the educational sphere
Addressing the meeting participants, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated, “As Head of State, I have repeatedly said that the school is a temple, and this is actually the sacral meaning of education. Iron order and discipline should reign here – both in the organisation of the educational process and in material terms. The school lays the foundation for more than just the future – but for the person!”
The President stressed that windows and doors should be replaced, the territory should be beautified, and walls should be painted everywhere where it is needed – ‘necessarily with the participation of children’. Aleksandr Lukashenko paid a special attention to that point, “Educate young people through labour, and then they will have an appropriate attitude to the school. Unfortunately, we have moved away from this Soviet principle.”
At the same time, the Head of State added that all schools should be full of children, and their transportation needs to be organised if necessary, including in Minsk.
“I earlier said that we start building modern schools in the form of palaces in our new residential districts. Meanwhile, schools are virtually empty or not fully filled in the central districts of Minsk, where there are practically no children. So it is better to bring children from remote districts of the city to these schools, to these sacred places with long history, while allocating the saved funds to other purposes and needs – including teachers' salaries. There should be no unnecessaries, it is not the best time for that. It is simply necessary to approach the solution of this problem in a masterly manner,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
