Lukashenko: President will have to reckon with Belarusian People’s Congress decisions, avoiding conflict

At today’s meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Belarus, Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that the President will have to reckon with the decisions of the Belarusian People’s Congress – a body entrusted with constitutional powers – but it’s important to avoid conflict, BelTA reports

“The Belarusian People’s Congress ensures serious people’s constitutional control over all processes in the country, and the President will have to reckon with its decisions. My task now is to prevent a conflict. It has always been like this in history – coming into conflict – but we cannot allow this to happen. I’m convinced that with your help, educated and advanced people, we will be able to do this. We need to hold the country,” said the Belarusian leader.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Belarusian People’s Congress, as a collective mind, will choose the optimal development option, “No one knows whether one person, no matter what they are, with such tough power as now, will cope with it or not. Therefore, without interfering with the President, the Belarusian People’s Congress must carefully find its place in our social structure. I set this task for the Constitutional Commission (being the head of state, the president be responsible for many aspects). This is what you and I must do. Therefore, we will talk about this at the Belarusian People’s Congress meeting.”

The President also addressed experienced people, asking them not to deviate from this process. “You are not leaving. We will leave when we pass on what we have built as an inheritance to our youth,” he said.
