Horse racing is especially popular among Mongols. Horses are prepared in advance – being trained according to the rules known to nomadic breeders for hundreds of years. They are grazed on pastures with special herbage, the amount of water they drink at watering places is regulated, and preliminary races are arranged.
An important detail of such training is to teach horses not to sweat too much on the gallop. Therefore, they are trained daily at noon, in the most intense heat. After ten days of such training, horses stop sweating, get rid of excess fat and are ready to race.
Mongolian horse racing probably has no analogues in the world. The length of the distances ranges from 12 to 32 kilometres.
