Lukashenko presented with chess set made by Vitebsk Region students

During today’s Open Microphone with the President event, Aleksandr Lukashenko was presented with a handmade chess set from the Vitebsk Region students, symbolising the history of the Dvina River area

The gift – a result of the painstaking work of employees and students of the Department of Decorative and Applied Arts and Technical Graphics at the Vitebsk State University – was presented to Aleksandr Lukashenko by the chairman of the student trade union organisation of the university Andrei Krotov.

“I will say without exaggeration that we have put our soul and a deep idea into it. The concept of the gift is the history of the Dvina River area, since our region is very special and unique. We’ve tried to symbolically reflect the sacred meaning and folk images associated with the Vitebsk Region in each chess piece,” he said.

During the Open Microphone session, Andrei Krotov also happened to play the role of event moderator, so he is full of impressions, “The meeting was held in a friendly and trusting atmosphere. The conversation was really honest and open. The President touched upon a lot of global issues dealing with education, studies, patriotism, relationships in our society, and the growth of opportunities for young people. The last topic seemed especially close to me, because I – an ordinary guy from the village of Vorony in the Vitebsk District – was sitting next to the Head of State today. I believe this once again confirms the fact that all roads are open for purposeful talented youngsters in Belarus and everyone can achieve a lot.”
