Lukashenko on upcoming CSTO exercises in Belarus: long-planned issues will be worked out
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, talked to journalists after his meeting at the Belarusian State University and commented on whether the West should consider the CSTO exercises starting on September 1st in Belarus as some kind of special signal
“No, it shouldn’t,” the Head of State said. “To be honest, I did not even delve into the details of these exercises. Actually, in the current situation – in order not to escalate the situation, there is no such combat component. Small units of some CSTO countries will take part to work out mainly staff issues, tactics and strategy for the future.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the West is aware of this, since Belarus notified it in advance. Nevertheless, the President is confident that the country’s opponents will still use this topic, saying: ‘Look, Putin and Lukashenko are planning something in Belarus again and are almost preparing an offensive against, for example, unfortunate Poland’. “Nothing like that. There is no offensive in mind. We are working out the usual issues that were planned long time ago. Therefore, it is no need for you – and especially them – to worry about this,” the Head of State stressed.
