Lukashenko on significance of Living Memory of Grateful Generations monument: as long as we remember our origins, they nourish us with strength

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent a letter on occasion of the unveiling of the Living Memory of Grateful Generations monument in Brest, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian leader’s press service

The Head of State noted that on July 28th, the Living Memory of Grateful Generations national monument was unveiled – the second of the planned trilogy of memorials in Minsk, the Brest Fortress and Moscow.

“The memory of the Great Patriotic War has no statute of limitations. It lives in our hearts, teaching us to value freedom and peace, uniting millions of people who proudly call themselves the heirs of the winners, and lives despite unprecedented attempts to erase the historical truth. It has long been a part of the national idea of Belarusians,” the message reads.

Now this memory is embodied in the symbolic image of the tree of life, the crown of which – breaking the metal – symbolises the peoples standing firmly on their native land, striving for peace and creation. Our roots are ancient. As long as we remember our origins and honour the achievements of our predecessors, they nourish us with strength,” the President drew attention.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed gratitude to the representatives of more than half a million families from Belarus, Russia, the CIS and non-CIS states — to all who responded to the initiative of the Belarusian charitable foundation to perpetuate endless gratitude to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

“Everything we do together to preserve the shared historical memory, we do for the sake of a peaceful future on Earth. Eighty years ago, we also stood together and won. And we will do everything to protect the clear sky over our homeland,” the Head of State stressed.
