Lukashenko on pensioners: we supported them and will continue to do this, ensuring their normal life

The state has supported and will continue to support pensioners – as noted today by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, when being reported on the improvement of social support for the population

The Head of State recalled that this year pensions have been raised twice in Belarus.

“Pensioners are pensioners: we have supported them and will continue to do this. They should live normally. But there is one pleasant, I would say, aspect about pensioners. Some of those who have retired wish to work. Of course, normal conditions should be created, as well as there should be demand in the labour market. As you know, this demand is very high. We’re concerned all the time about how to raise pension age, etc. Those who can work offer their services in the labour market themselves. What’s wrong with that? Moreover, people retire at 55-60 years old, even at 65. What kind of pensioners are they? These are people who can still work. If persons want to work, it is necessary to provide them with such an opportunity,” the President asserted.

The meeting also tackled the procedure for assigning pensions; appeals on this issue are often received from some pensioners.

The position of the Belarusian leader is principled in this regard, “It is necessary to completely de-bureaucratise this process! The procedure should be clearly determined: a couple of days — and the necessary formalities should be completed.”
