Lukashenko on idea to build new agricultural holding in Shklov District: it is necessary to approach it attentively and think about efficiency

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko cautiously assessed the idea of the Chairman of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, Anatoly Isachenko, voiced at today’s meeting in Shklov to build a new agricultural holding in the Shklov District

As stated by the Mogilev Region’s Governor, the amalgamation of large farms in the district into one structure will help solve a number of problems. The Belarusian leader assessed the idea very cautiously. According to him, this move will not be able to solve all the problems, and the desire to create a holding company should come primarily from the heads of farms, who should understand whether it will be profitable for them.

“It is necessary to approach this issue very carefully. What is the reason for this merger? What should be used as a basis for it, and what will be the result? In the end, there must be financial benefit, so what profit will we get?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked.

The Head of State stressed that he does not reject the idea itself, but directs managers to think well and make reasonable decisions on their own. “I do not refute your theses, but I am categorically against us putting pressure on this structure from above. We used to merge and divide in Soviet times… Merging does not solve the main problem,” he explained.

However, it is another matter if an investor – who will be ready to inject money in such structures – comes. The President asked the opinion of the heads of farms, and the latter stated that they are ready to work as part of such a structure in the future.

“It is necessary to approach and convince people very carefully,” the Belarusian leader believes. “Guys, I am telling you publicly: there should be no imposition of modernisation of your farms from above. If some (managers) are against it, then motivate and prove that this is a bad idea. You should be helped, not hindered.”
