Lukashenko on how Western neighbours ‘shot themselves in the head’: Belarus can provide food and clothes for 30m people
Belarus is able to feed and clothe 30m people, and even up to 40m – as stated by Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko an interview with Rossiya TV channel, BelTA reports
Various kinds of prohibitive measures, sanctions and restrictions imposed on Belarus by its closest Western neighbours, in particular Lithuania and Poland, were among the topics of the conversation. Recent examples include a ban on the entry of cars with Belarusian license plates and the closure of border checkpoints.
"They do not know what they are doing. They are true madmen, so what is the need to talk about them. If there were responsible politicians there, we could discuss their policies – but there are no responsible politicians there,” the Head of State said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, from an economic point of view, there are even advantages in such restrictions, because there will be less so-called economic tourism, and residents of Belarus and Russia will stop exporting money outside their countries.
"We can provide clothes and food for 30 million people right now in Belarus, and this figure may even reach 40m, if we work hard,” the Head of State stressed. “What is the need then for us to go to Lithuania and buy EU-made products there? If they were smart and the European Union did not go so mad, they would not have done that, and they would have banned Lithuanians from doing that, since it envisages an income of billions of Dollars. So why should we talk of them after they imposed sanctions and actually shot themselves not even into a leg but the head.”
As for reducing the number of checkpoints on the border with Poland, the decision of the Polish authorities is indifferent for Belarus and Russia. “The European Union and the United States have imposed sanctions against us, but we do not go there, and we bring there nothing,” the President added.
