Lukashenko on his fear throughout his life as President
During today’s meeting with humanities students at the Minsk State Linguistic University, Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko said about what he was afraid of all his life as President
In the course of the meeting, one of the participants suggested publishing a practical training manual for interpreters and translators based on the speeches and quotes of the Belarusian leader: a training quotation book.
Aleksandr Lukashenko responded, “If it’s necessary, we will do it. It’s not a problem. Someone from the specialists should determine whether we need it or not. But not necessarily mine [quotes]. There shouldn’t be cult of the leader. That’s what I’ve been afraid of all my life as President. Don’t believe anyone, there’s no dictatorship in the country and there can’t be. Do you know why? To be a dictator, you must have the levers of dictatorship. And what levers do I have? That’s what Americans came up with: dictator, dictator... How can I dictate to America? Today, Trump, Biden and others – who produce more than 30 percent of the world’s GDP – can’t dictate. How can I dictate? Do we have the strongest economy that I can come to Russia or China and stamp my foot: do it this way? There’s no dictatorship, and I don’t need it.”
