Lukashenko launched Unity Marathon

Despite the forces that seek to sow discord and hatred in our society, we must show harmony and community of spiritual traditions and the historical fate of the people – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s If We Are United large-scale patriotic forum dedicated to National Unity Day. Speaking from the rostrum of the high forum, the Head of State announced the launch of the Belarusian campaign: Unity Marathon.

“Shaped by the talent and works of many outstanding sons and daughters of the Belarusian land, our unique culture has long been an integral part of the common heritage of all mankind. Unfortunately, today we are increasingly seeing attempts to ban or exclude it from the agenda, along with symbols of the Motherland, a thousand-year history and all that we are proud of,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

According to the President, the reasons for this attitude may lie in the fact that we are faithful to the traditions of our ancestors and are spiritually different from the West. They have long been accustomed to identify human culture with the destinies of all mankind, which has led to the forcible imposition of Western values on other nations and the destruction of the cultural diversity of the planet.

“Despite the forces seeking to sow discord and hatred in our society, we must show harmony and community of spiritual traditions and the historical fate of the people. Therefore, it is symbolic that today we are launching the Belarusian campaign: Unity Marathon. It will be a marathon of the trinity of traditions: national culture, which we carefully preserve and develop, the talents of our people, for which the Belarusian land is famous, and the beauty of the Slavic soul, which fills the world around with harmony and mutual understanding,” the Head of State emphasised.

The President wished everyone to feel the full palette of talents of the Belarusian land and touch the rich heritage of our national culture, “Let the bright colours and melodies of creativity in all corners of the country awaken love for their Homeland in the hearts of Belarusians. This is the key to a decent future for our people and the sacred duty of our contemporaries, on which life should be built in a united family of patriots and workers, whose name is Belarus. Let’s love, make friends, dream, work and relax together in the Belarusian way! Let’s protect and defend Belarus! Our ancestors bequeathed this to us, and we tell our descendants about it. We’re doing this because time has chosen us!”
