"It is time for agriculture to take new steps forward, and it must be done. We can miss some points if we rest on our laurels. Agriculture has become a good growth driver for us. We are progressing seriously, including this year," the Head of State said after the meeting, at which issues of effective development of agricultural production in the Shklov and Orsha districts were discussed.

In this regard, the President noted that he almost never holds production meetings in Shklov, “This is because when I am driving through Shklov, a wave of positive and negative memories is rushing over me, and no meeting seems to be possible against these emotions. However, the circumstances developed in such a way that I had to meet here, on our land, with the leaders of the Orsha and Shklov districts. That was a truly historic meeting, because the reform of our villages had begun from here, from the Shklov District. That was not because it’s my homeland, and my countrymen live here. That was because I knew every corner and every field here. It was difficult to get around me in some way, to deceive or hide some information from me,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The Head of State emphasised that global demand for food is growing, especially in regions with population growth such as Africa and Asia. Under these conditions, Belarus nevertheless tries to keep prices within the country as low as possible.

"Prices may be controlled so strictly, that there may be no goods tomorrow, because everything will be taken out of the country,” the President noted, explaining that such control over prices should not be too excessive.

"Therefore, we have decided to take another step, starting from the Shklov District again, to study how will move forward in agriculture, how we will feed and clothe our people. This is the main topic that we have discussed. We have also tackled upon such issues as human resources, housing construction, and so on. After four hours of our conversation we have come to certain decisions on how the Shklov District will develop and, using its example, how other districts should develop," the Belarusian leader concluded.
