Lukashenko: it’s necessary to adapt strategy and tactics of using Gomel Region potential over next five years
The Gomel Region will take an active part in the new Polesie programme, and the Chernobyl programme will also be expanded – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s solemn ceremony of honouring farmers at the Dazhynki-2024 festival-fair in Korma, Gomel Region
The Head of State noted that today nature poses a new challenge to us: the climate and the structure of agriculture are changing, forcing us to constantly fight droughts and strong winds, with the Gomel Region being a good example.
“It’s time to take the next step. Over the next five years, it is necessary to adapt the strategy and tactics of using the Gomel Region potential. Within five years the region must change both externally and internally, especially production,” the Belarusian leader asserted.
The President explained that this development will take place in parallel with the programmes announced by him at the Dazhynki-2024 festival-fair in Mikashevichi, “We will concentrate funds on these areas and do everything so that you will never regret that we took up this region. The One District – One Project programme should also generate a result. There should be an effective project in every district so that people are employed and receive normal salaries.”
The Head of State added that it’s necessary not to forget about land reclamation which is no less important for the Gomel Region than for the Brest Region. In general, after two or three years, we need to see good results across all areas. According to the Belarusian leader, with the new governor the region has so far made only ‘the first small step towards what has been entrusted’.
“Of course, we will support and help you. But first of all, you must revive your region. They say the climate has become milder. So let’s cultivate grapes, peaches, and watermelons. This should be your peculiarity: to produce what others cannot do due to natural conditions and what is much-in-demand,” Aleksandr Lukashenko asserted.
He gave an example of the situation with onions, which was once imported by the country, but today Belarus fully provides itself. Moreover, everything began on an industrial scale from the Gomel Region.
“In the same way, it is necessary to produce now new crops, which we import. We need to produce what our people need and what we can sell on foreign markets. Think about it and make suggestions. This is one of the directions of the programme for the revival of the country’s south-east,” the Head of State stressed.
“Of course, the work is currently underway, but we are developing very slowly. We need to speed up. We can’t fall behind. If we stop, God forbid, we’ll be trampled,” the Belarusian leader warned.
