The Belarusian leader noted the importance of such an international platform as the Advisory Council, which has become a place for effective interaction on topical issues of organising and conducting electoral campaigns, “I have said more than once that we need to work together in this area, develop common principles for our central commissions, prepare laws and by-laws. We also need to practice so that we do not have major contradictions. It is necessary to study the world experience.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that national standards should be developed. “The main standard we follow is not what principles will be imposed on us by the OSCE or some other organisations, but how our laws and by-laws will comply with the Constitution, how the elections will comply with the legislation in force in our countries. This is the key point,” he stressed.

The Head of State reminded that Belarus is living through a pre-electoral period. “We proceed precisely from these principles: the Belarusian people are to independently and without any pressure decide on who will lead the country,” he stressed.
