Lukashenko instructed to return to Polesie development programme

During his today’s working trip to the Pinsk District, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed to return to the Polesie development programme, BelTA reports

The President, in particular, visited the grain mill at Parokhonskoye JSC – a successful farm in all directions which experience should be taken as a model for everyone, especially in the Polesie region.

“Once we’ve ready decided to deal with Polesie and a programme was adopted to revive this area. As often happens with us, officials, something has been done, something has been not and that’s all. We must return to this issue and don’t throw around money. I have already instructed the Government to focus on some major projects and direct funds there. It is necessary to put the country in order in five years,” Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined.

The President also reminded about other similar regional programmes, e.g., the development of the south-east of the Mogilev Region and the revival of the Chernobyl-affected areas.

“Today we see that we did the right thing,” the Belarusian leader noted.

According to him, over the winter it is necessary to think and make a decision about what to do in the Vitebsk Region. As far as the Mogilev Region is concerned, the Head of State is confident that there is everything for effective development there, except discipline.

“The Mogilev Region needs a good whip. There are excellent lands there, there is everything. They just got a little out of hand,” the President said.

As for Polesie, Aleksandr Lukashenko explained that he is referring to the territories stretching from Pinsk towards Mozyr, “It is necessary to do as he has [Director of Parokhonskoye JSC Vladimir Khrolenko]: clean and beautiful, like a true master.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed Mikhail Rusy, the President’s authorised representative in the Brest Region, to supervise this issue. Vladimir Khrolenko is to help him with organisational matters and consultations. Of course, the Government and the regional leadership will not sit idle either.

“If you do it in five years, you are heroes. We need to do it the way everything is done at Parokhonskoye JSC. If we bring Polesie into order, we will feed the whole country at its expense,” the President noted.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was reported on the completion of grain harvesting and the progress of agricultural works in the country and in the region. The total threshing of corn for grain is expected to reach 2m tonnes. Taking into account the spiked cereals, the gross harvest is guaranteed to exceed 10m tonnes. The harvesting of sugar beet is actively coming to an end, with its yield standing approximately at the last year’s level. There could have been more, but the heat and lack of moisture made their adjustments. Nevertheless, the needs of sugar producers are guaranteed to be met. As reported to the Head of State, sugar is now being exported well, and there is a good price situation. It is planned to harvest potatoes until October 14th.

Listening to the report from Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Linevich, Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed sowing of winter crops in certain regions. It is planned to complete it by October 15th. These works have been completely finished in the Brest Region, while there are questions about the Vitebsk, Mogilev and Gomel regions.

“Is it possible to sow later in Vitebsk than in Brest?” the Head of State asked indignantly. “In theory, it should be finished in Vitebsk by late September. We’ll see into this matter in detail. How long are we going to ‘chat’ on these issues? What prevented you from sowing before October 1st? Will the weather be like this, what kind of development of winter crops will be there? Dmitry Nikolaevich [Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi], get it all sorted out; this also applies to personnel. It’s time to put them in their place. If they can’t, let them leave.”

The Head of State drew attention to the fact that due to the warmer climate, it is necessary to master the cultivation of new, more southern crops. We should also think about the introduction of irrigation technologies.

Another instruction from the President concerns the procurement of high-quality feeds, “We don’t need rotten feeds. We need normal animal feeds.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko also got acquainted with the reclamation equipment used by the farm, seed production of perennial grasses and the production of vitamin and herbal granules.
