Lukashenko: inhuman cruelty did not break Belarusians’ will
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has addressed the nation on the occasion of National Remembrance Day of Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of Belarusian People
“The whole of Belarus remembers today the tragic events of June 22nd, 1941. Early in the morning, the war treacherously invaded our home, mercilessly destroying destinies, families, towns and villages. For more than three years, the Belarusian land was literally groaning from the atrocities of the Nazis. Every third resident of the country died in the devastating fire of that war,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
As noted by the Belarusian leader, the inhuman cruelty did not break the will of our people. The defence of the native land united all civilians of the republic in their general resistance to fascism. “Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers faced torture and terror, but they preserved their honour and dignity,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
The President noted that, after decades of a prosperous life on the planet, a situation has developed again when the fabric of peacetime is about to break. “The next wrong step of cynical Western politicians may be the last one for most of humanity,” he stressed.
“Knowing first-hand about the horrors of war and the price of victory, the Belarusian people preserve the historical truth, strengthen state sovereignty and unity of the nation in the name of peace in their native land,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated. “On this mournful day, in honour of the liberating soldiers and all the fallen but unconquered, we bow our heads in a moment of silence.”
