Lukashenko holding a meeting with youth activists of Belarus

On October 24th, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is holding a meeting with the country’s youth activists. Activists of the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organisation and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM), as well as finalists of the Miss Belarus 2023 National Beauty Pageant and veterans of the Komsomol movement were invited to the Palace of Independence. Before the start of the event, its participants were given a tour of the Palace of Independence, which today celebrates its tenth anniversary. Then the guests went to the Winter Garden to meet with the Head of State.

This event has a special symbolism, taking place on the 10th anniversary of the Palace of Independence’s opening, as well as on the eve of the 105th anniversary of the Komsomol. Therefore, the participants themselves called this event a meeting of generations.

“This is precisely a meeting of generations, because not only the BRSM team gathered here. Our respected veterans and our successors have gathered here, as have the future of the youth union: young pioneers,” said First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Aleksandr Lukyanov.

He noted another symbolism of the meeting: it is taking place on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the student brigade movement in Belarus while members of the student teams at one time built the Palace of Independence.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the original plan was for the Palace of Independence to be designed and constructed by Belarusians. He was also involved in this process, “I love nature, hence the order and cleanliness in the country. I demand very strictly that this be the case. I asked that a so-called winter garden be designed here. Then, when I said that we would do everything ourselves, the offers began to arrive. There were a lot of options, but there was only one requirement: it should be ours, from our materials.”

The President told the meeting participants about the Palace’s history and about those people who brought the idea to life. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, although he does not like palaces, he is convinced that the state should have such a symbol of independence.
