Lukashenko explained why subbotniks are important for Belarusians

In Khatyn, the Head of State shared his views on the importance of subbotniks and on statements made by the opposition that such campaigns violate labour law

“I do not even want to react to this wild stupidity. We do not force anyone. It is voluntary. If you want to work on this day in the name of these people – children, and not only children – who were burned... They wanted to live, but they were burned. We want to pay tribute to these people. We have come [here]. If some scoundrel wants to forget it, to cross it out (we see how it is happening in our southern neighbour state), then it is their business. We will fight against this – doing this fiercely. No one forces anyone to work for the benefit of their Motherland. And look, almost a hundred percent of people, and even those who can reason this way, have joined. It is a shame to stay at home when millions of people are out and working,” the President stressed.

A subbotnik, as Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed, embodies the best that has been preserved and transferred into our history from the Soviet times.

“This is a tradition, and our people live following the traditions. Therefore, I have heard such statements many times, but I reacted to them simply in my soul: ‘they are idiots, and this is complete stupidity’. We are not violating any law – by coming here to work instead of laying on a sofa. They probably see us here. God grant that they see us,” the President stressed.

The Head of State concluded, “These arguments are even beneficial to us – so that people can see who is who. If a person thinks like that, then they are scoundrels. It is impossible to name them differently. If anything happens, God forbids, then these are future collaborators. It is good that we see them. The year 2020 taught us.”
