During today’s visit to St. Elijah Church in Orsha, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko explained why he came to this church near the Dnieper on the bright Easter holiday

The Head of State noted that on this day people primarily pray for their health, the health of their relatives and friends, “As I always say, if there’s health, we’ll buy everything else.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, at this time we remember and pray for peace. “This is probably the main thing. If there is no peace, people don’t need either health or education. In general, people don’t need anything if there is no peace with themselves, no peace in their souls and hearts, no peace in their family, no peace in their state. We’ve realised this very seriously now. When the wars were going on somewhere far away, in the Middle East, in Asia, we all thought that it’s somewhere out there. Today the war has come to a very close nation for us, to our native people. It’s already here, as I say, behind the fence, on our doorstep. This is already our war. When choosing the church to visit I deliberately indicated this one. Not only because I was born on the banks of this majestic ancient river. I thought that our Dnieper River and this church have always united three Slavic fraternal peoples: Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians. Unfortunately, there’s an ongoing conflict in the neighbouring country. However, I’m absolutely convinced that through our prayers we will return to the times when our peoples will be together,” the President emphasised.

The President believes that on this day we also pray for daily bread, so that everyone has it on the table. We have ensured food security, though 20-30 years ago this was not enough.

“Nevertheless, most importantly, we pray for the serene sleep of our children, so that they live peacefully, fall asleep and wake up in the morning. This is very important,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

He recalled that a lot of children from Donbass arrive in Belarus for rest and recuperation. When they are asked about their dreams, they all talk about one thing: to have peace and quiet in their homeland.
